My Thoughts On Competition.

When I think of competition, I think of people coming together and accomplishing something to beat another group that is doing the same thing. I believe in fair competition, not selfish.

My favorite article was Cooperation vs. Competition, it really gives a good example, using children, to show that cooperation & competition comes in any age. One thing I really enjoyed about the article was how the kids had the choice of either working alone, against another kid, or in a competition. In the end, the results were that the kids enjoyed shooting with a team, rather than being alone. Which makes pretty good sense considering kids don't really like to even be alone. I thought that using kids really made everything more clear between cooperation vs. competition.

I'm not going to lie and tell you that I really got anything out of the article Competition vs. Cooperation. It was just too much, and honestly I don't think that I'm the only one who felt that way. I only really got out of it that students enjoy working in a group better & feel better about themselves.

All-in-all I really liked the articles, I thought that being a team-player really hit home because it really showed that you have to do so many things to help a team out. Always being in contact, working around work/school, communication, and making your schedule more flexible. Personally I enjoy working in a group because it brings so many different ideas to the table & makes you grow stronger in that area of what your working on... rather than sitting in a classroom & taking notes after notes.

Prisoner's Dilemma..

Sooooo... today we were asked to pick someONE in our class that deserves an "A"/ Beth said "She will only give one person in the class an "A".. type thing. As a team we decided to an obstacle course. Which I totally still think Mark & myself won... but that's to be determined. And that person receives the "A". Honestly, I think that we worked really well together. We always made sure to make everyone vote, so we were all involved/included in the dilemma.

I'm Proud To Be A, -ESFJ-.

Do you think it was a team or a group experience, what was your contribution to the exercise, how effective do you think the exercise was, what would you have changed about the exercise?
I feel like during that experience it was a group effort. I believe that because we all really worked together to get what we needed to do, done. My contribution to the exercise was "the leader" I had to tell everyone what to do (which I had them split up into two groups of 7 & put the room back to how it was). Successfully everyone worked together and got in done and back to classroom ready. I think the exercise was very effective because it gave us all a chance to work together as a group & really see that we can trust one another to get anything done. I wouldn't have changed anything, besides the fact that we should have left the room how it was for the next class :)

Each. Others. Blogs.

::Could Work With::
1) Ryan Stambro - seems like a really outgoing & fun person to work with.
2) Mark Hicks - because we both seem pretty easy going.
3) Heather - likes to be organized.

I don't really want to write who I don't think I could work with... I feel like if you are put into a group/team then you should figure things out (together) & get them done. Even if someone does something better than the other. You work together to better each other and make something amazing between "random people".

Skill Set Inventory.

  1. What is your favorite thing to do outside of school? I really enjoy hanging out with my friends, traveling, working at the wine bar, visiting new places, relaxing with my dogs, watching movies, working out (cross fit), & sitting down and reading a good book.
  2. What is your favorite class and explain why it is your favorite? My favorite class would have to be.... gym class in high school. Because it really helped me figure out what type of work-outs I liked to do, and which ones I hated.
  3. What are you good at doing in New Media? I really enjoy filming, editing, and I'm just currently getting into sound.
  4. What are you good at doing outside of New Media? Honestly, meeting people. I always try to keep in contact with people I've met because it really helps when you need help with something and you know that person has something to offer and would be happy to help you.
  5. What is your favorite area of New Media (you don't have to be good at it, but you have to like whatever you talk about for this one?) My favorite area would have to be filming and editing. I really enjoy learning more about it and different techniques to use.
  6. Do you prefer to work independently or in a group? Please explain why. I prefer, both. I really like changing things up sometimes. I can honestly do both and be fine with it.
  7. What New Media classes have you had? -Web Development -Intro to Digital Media Principles -Visualizing Information -Digital Media Imagery -Design Issues in Digital Media -Digital Storytelling -Multimedia Content Management -Intro To Digital Video (Final Cut Pro 7) -3D Modeling -Directed Study I&II -Fundamental Comp Sci Concepts -Digital Effects (After Effects) -Seeing Sideways
  8. In a group project explain what you usually end up doing. I usually end up finding locations to film/people to act. I'm the one who is a pretty easy going person who will do whatever I need to do, and yes... I get it done.
  9. In a perfect group what would you like to end up working on? (i.e. hands-on work, research, presentation, web development, planning, etc.) Probably.. Presentation/Polishing a Project & Planning
  10. What is your opinion of group work? Please explain why. I agree with everything we talked about in class. That you are put with a random group of people who you never know what they are going to do. You could always have the quiet one, the bossy one, & the dumbass. But you have to all come together and work hard together or someones (if not all) grades would suffer.
  11. How do you think other people would describe you? I think... people think.. that I'm nice, helpful, outgoing, talkative, mysterious, & relaxed.
  12. How would you describe yourself? I would describe myself as easy-going, strong, hard-working, respectful, & level-headed.
  13. What do you do when a group project goes bad? I would try to figure out what could be done to fix it, communicate with the other members, get in touch with the teacher, and probably other things... I just can't think right now :( I'm not going to say that I'm a saint, because I do work, very hard & sometimes that gets in the way of school. But in the past people are really amazing at working with me, I personally just always try to keep in contact with everyone- so they don't just think I dropped off the face of the earth.
  14. What is civic engagement in your opinion? Working with others & helping out.
  15. What experience have you had working with community partners, either on your own, through school, church, or in any other capacity? I actually am very lucky sometimes, because at work I've got at least 3 internships while I was bartending (people were coherent) & I had an amazing time. One was actually with 3 Wide Media @ Conseco Field house for the Celebrity Charity Race.
  16. What do you know about Keep Indianapolis Beautiful (KIB?) That they are located by my old house on Fletcher Ave.
  17. How do you think New Media (the program and all its resources) could help the community in general, and KIB in particular? Maybe making a documentary on them to show the world what they are about.
  18. How could YOU help the community, and KIB, particularly in terms of New Media? By being able to help them with the skills I've learned.
  19. What are your goals for this semester? To finish :) and get good grades!
  20. What do you want to be when you grow up? It's still being written.
